Buffalo should be proud to be joined with Niagara
I read with interest a recent letter from an Amherst reader questioning the need for the word Niagara in the title of the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport and seeking its removal. Well, let us review some facts. The name Niagara Falls is recognized worldwide, more so than Buffalo. The majority of international visitors to the airport are coming to see Niagara Falls.
Furthermore, the term Niagara – Native American for thundering waters – was in usage in the area well before the founding of the City of Buffalo. Based on Niagara’s worldwide recognition and the history of its usage, it would actually be appropriate to rename the airport the Niagara-Buffalo International Airport.
