Buffalo’s Hamister Group buys 3 hotels in Pennsylvania

Hamister Group LLC is expanding its hospitality portfolio, acquiring three hotels in northeastern Pennsylvania near a key highway intersection and major distribution and manufacturing operations.

The Buffalo-based firm said it has purchased a package of three Marriott- and Hilton-branded properties, with a total of 314 hotel rooms, at the intersection of Interstates 80 and 81 in Hazleton. The hotels include a 92-room Residence Inn, a 122-room Hampton Inn, and a Fairfield Inn & Suites with 100 rooms.

“These are hotels with strong brands that need a capital infusion for building upgrades and additional operational expertise to reposition them at the top of the Hazleton market,” Hamister Group Chief Investment Officer Daniel M. Hamister said in a press release.

The Hazleton market includes distribution, assembly and manufacturing facilities for such high-profile national and international companies as, Wegmans Markets, Honeywell International Inc. and The Hershey Co.

Hamister, which owns and operates the Hilton Garden Inn at Lafayette Square in downtown Buffalo, is a national healthcare and hospitality company that manages eight hotels, with two more under construction, for a total of 1,100 rooms. It also runs four senior housing communities with nearly 600 units and one home healthcare agency.
