Power Take: Believe it! Soccer kicks off high school slate Wednesday

Summer vacation ended Aug. 15 for the area’s scholastic athletes.

Now it’s the fans’ turn to return to the stands.

It’s hard to believe but the fall season kicks off at 3 p.m. Wednesday with a girls soccer game in Albion as Section V’s Irondequoit visits the Purple Eagles. Friday there’s a smorgasbord of games to choose from, with boys volleyball getting into the swing of things Saturday at the Clarence Tournament.

Where did the time go?

It seems like the season ended two weeks ago, not two months ago; but perhaps it went by so quickly because news never takes a break.

The cycle started with the annual Prep Talk Awards and continued with an update regarding Lake Shore’s quest to get student-athletes to come out for football. Then word broke that the community lost a coaching legend with the passing of Eden’s Robert Burnside.

There were last-minute coaching changes, and News Players of the Year Tyree Brown (football) and Stafford Trueheart (boys basketball) did upon further reviews regarding previously announced college plans.

Who knows what will happen once the games begin?

It’ll be fun watching it unfold.
