Healthy choices: Slow Roll, art and yoga, last week for Fitness in the Parks

Free outdoor exercise classes start to wind down in the coming days, the last week for the Independent Health Fitness in the Parks program. Taking a last class – or more than one – are among the WNY Refresh top calendar picks of the week when it comes to the four core areas of Refresh: health, fitness, nutrition and family life.

Free outdoor classes at Canalside run through Labor Day. See that schedule at canalsidebuffalo.com.

Meanwhile, here are our choices for this week.

MONDAY

Slow Roll: Riders gather at 5:30 p.m. and ride starts at 6:30 sharp on Monday at Front Park, 121 Porter Ave. Slow Roll has weekly bicycle rides scheduled through Oct. 17. For more info, visit slowrollbuffalo.org.

Fitness in the Parks: Last week of free outdoor classes include a bootcamp, 6 p.m., on the field at New Era Field, Abbott Road at Southwestern Boulevard, Orchard Park; and yoga at 5:30 p.m., Larkin Square pickleball courts, 745 Seneca St., and 6 p.m. in Westwood Park, 175 Pavement Road, Lancaster. Other classes this week include cardio kickboxing at 6 p.m. Friday, Basset Park bandstand, 359 Klein Road, Amherst, and at 11 a.m. Saturday in Goehle (Widewaters) Marina, Cold Springs Road North and Lake Avenue South, Lockport.

Balance – The Art of Mind and Body: With Power Yoga Buffalo, 6:30 p.m., Albright-Knox Art Gallery, 1285 Elmwood Ave. Enjoy an evening of yoga and art. For more info, visit albrightknox.org. $25.

TUESDAY

THURSDAY

FRIDAY

Yoga for seniors: 9 a.m., Clarence Senior Center, 4600 Thompson Road, Clarence. Call 633-5138 for more info. $5.

Friday Night Lights: 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., Aquarium of Niagara, 701 Whirlpool St. One admission fee lets you come and go as many times as you want, and use the upstairs deck for fireworks over Niagara Falls at the end of the night. There will be entertainment all day and night. Starting at 6 p.m., there will be drinks and food for sale by the Culinary Arts Institute at Niagara Falls, music by Peter Green and Brian Beaudry, contests, raffles, an added sea lion show and touch tanks.
