Hamburg man faces manslaughter charge in fatal July crash

A Hamburg man is charged with second degree vehicular manslaughter in connection with a July crash that claimed the life of a woman from West Seneca.

Shane Heisler, 30, was arrested Friday and arraigned in West Seneca Town Court before Judge Shannon Filbert, who set bail at $15,000 cash or $25,000 bond.

According to investigators, Heisler was heading south on Union Road near Town Road on July 16 when he drove his vehicle across three lanes of oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into a car driven by Ronald Heiss, 65. It was about 1 p.m. and Heiss, his wife and Barbara M. Guenther, 71, were on their way to a wedding. Guenther, who was riding in the backseat, suffered traumatic injuries and died three days later. The Heisses and Heisler sustained minor injuries.

Heisler pleaded not guilty at his arraignment and is scheduled to be back in court Sept. 2.

Assistant District Attorney Robin J. Deubler is prosecuting the case.
