William G. Muehlbauer, a former attorney for the Village of Sloan, died Thursday in Brompton Heights Assisted Living in Williamsville. The Buffalo native was 85.
Mr. Muehlbauer was educated in the Jesuit tradition at Canisius High School, from where he graduated in 1949 and from Canisius College 1952. He received his law degree from Fordham University in 1956.
He began his law career serving in the U.S. Army with the NACOM JAG Office in Frankfurt, Germany, from 1956 to 1958.
From 1963 to 1973, Mr. Muehlbauer was the Village of Sloan attorney. He served as attorney for various local fire companies, including Bellvue, Bowmansville, Forks, Pine Hill and Rescue Hose.
He also served on the Town of Lancaster Zoning Board of Appeals for three years.
He was a member of Villa Maria College Board of Advisors for legal studies.
Mr. Muehlbauer was a lecturer of “Law Everyone Should Know” for Maryvale and Cheektowaga Central School districts and for NYS Association of Fire Districts.
He read weekly for Niagara Frontier Reading to the Blind. He took classes at Erie County University Express program and was a charter member of Father Justin Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Muehlbauer had a passion for gourmet cooking and dining out. He enjoyed gardening and hiking, and his hobbies also included canoeing and kayaking. In addition, he played the accordion since he was a young boy. Mr. Muehlbauer also enjoyed live music, dancing and going to the beach.
He traveled to world capitals including Berlin, London, Paris and Rome.
Surviving are his longtime companion, Nancy Neubauer; one son, Robert; a daughter, Patrice Riedel; and one brother, George.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 a.m. on Monday in Our Lady Help of Christians Chapel, 4125 Union Road, Cheektowaga.
