Power back on in Amherst, but 2,700 in Lancaster have no electricity

More than 14,600 households and businesses in Amherst and Williamsville lost power Saturday afternoon, according to National Grid. The power was back up to almost everyone by about 5:30 p.m.

However, nearly 2,700 customers had no power in Lancaster, as of 5:40 p.m., according to NYSEG.

The Town of Amherst’s Emergency Services and Safety department said a “main transmission line has blown in the northwest corner of the town.” That triggered four substations in the Amherst area to be affected.

Police advise motorists to treat intersections where traffic lights aren’t working as four-way stops.
