Garden Notes: News of area clubs and events

The Buffalo Area Daylily Society, Western New York Hosta Society and Western New York Iris Society will hold their combined sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens, 2655 South Park Ave., in the Administration Building. Hundreds of named cultivars; all colors, sizes, varieties and prices. Members of all three societies will be on hand to help with selections and supply information on best planting techniques for this climate. Come early for best selection. Free admission to sale.

Hamburg House and Garden Club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hamburg United Methodist Church, 118 Union St. Maggie Wittmer, floral designer at Mischler’s Florist and Greenhouses,Willamsville, will present “Trends in Floral Design.” A business meeting will follow. The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens is recruiting for the Docent Training Class of 2016. Docent training will begin on Sept. 8 or 10, requiring a six-week commitment of Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Thursday training track is for those interested in leading hands-on field trips and guided tours. The Saturday track is for those interested in the informal hands-on programs including scout programs and special events as well as training to lead guided tours. A participation cost of $25 is required for supply and printing fees. Registration fee will be accepted in advance online at buffalogardens.com or at the door on the first class day.
