Blame the flight delay on a squirrel.
A squirrel in a substation caused the power failure in the area of Genesee Street in Cheektowaga Friday morning, which then knocked out electricity in part of the Buffalo Niagara International Airport terminal.
The failure also knocked out traffic signals in the area.
One departing flight was delayed about 5 minutes during the 9 o’clock hour because of the failure, Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority spokesman Doug Hartmayer said in an email.
Gates 15 through 26 were affected by the power failure and power was back on before 9:45 a.m.
Hartmayer said the agency had not been told what caused the failure.
New York State Electric and Gas reported on its website that 25 customers, including 14 on Genesee Street, were without power just after 10 a.m.
A spokeswoman for the utility said in an email that the outage was caused by a squirrel.
Power was estimated to be restored by 11:45 a.m.
