First team All-Western New York kicker Blake Haubeil of Canisius High School has been selected to the USA Today Preseason All-USA Team.
Haubeil, the Ohio State commit, booted a 61-yard field goal last season and connected on 33 of 35 extra points in helping the Crusaders to an 8-3 record. He drilled the decisive extra point through a swirling, blustery wind at Ralph Wilson Stadium during Canisius' 7-6 Monsignor Martin Association semifinal win over St. Joe's last November.
The 6-foot-4, 225-pounder is ranked No. 1 by 247 Sports recruiting service. He is ranked as the No. 2 kicking prospect in the country, according to Kohl's Class of 2017 National Rating System.
"Being preseason All-American is a nice thing," Haubeil said. "It is great, you strive for those indivudal honors but at the same mind set you have to stay focused on team goals. I'm really focused on helping Cansius win a state championship."
Crusaders coach Rich Robbins said: "Anytime you have a player who is first team All-American it's awesome for your program. We're extremely proud of Blake. He's worked very hard to become one of the best kickers in the country. What a blessing it is to have him at Canisius."
