Power lines ripped down in City of Tonawanda after rig driver hits pole

A tractor-trailer driver crashed into a utility pole early Tuesday in the City of Tonawanda and ripped down power lines from five poles, causing a power outage in the area of Main and Fletcher streets.

The crash happened at about 12:45 a.m. at the intersection of Main and Fletcher, City of Tonawanda police said.

Power was lost in the area for about five hours and the tractor-trailer could not be removed until about 7 a.m. because power lines were on top of it.

Mark Lefler, 56, of Barberton, Ohio, told police officers he got lost and was trying to turn around at the time he struck the pole, police said.
