Picnic set to honor firefighters who battled Lockport blaze

LOCKPORT – The owner of a business near last week’s major Lockport fire is holding a neighborhood picnic Thursday, Aug. 18 to salute the firefighters who battled the blaze for three days.

Kathy O’Keefe, owner of Windsor Village, 43 Stevens St., will host the event from 5 to 9 p.m. The event will include food and beverages donated by 10 restaurants or bars in the west end of the City of Lockport, where the fire burned from Wednesday evening until Saturday afternoon.

There will be raffles and live music by Sara Elizabeth and the Heenan Brothers, O’Keefe said. The raffle prizes donated will include a power washing of siding and a house cleaning service, both sorely needed by some local homeowners.

“We’ve got a lot of houses just covered in soot,” O’Keefe said.

Her business and several homes close to the fire were saved by the efforts of the Lockport Fire Department and dozens of firefighters from other agencies. A South Lockport Fire Company ladder truck will be on display at the picnic.
