A man who took part in a firebombing at the home of a Buffalo block club leader is going to prison for 49 months.
William Lovell Smith, 48, was sentenced Thursday by U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny after being convicted of possessing a destructive device.
Assistant United States Attorney Joel L. Violanti said Smith helped manufacture at least two Molotov cocktails used on Nov. 1, 2011 to burn a Schreck Avenue home owned by a neighborhood block leader.
Smith was also ordered to pay $70,000 in restitution.
His sentencing is the result of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Buffalo Fire Investigation Unit.
