Cecilia C. Breen of Williamsville, a retired French teacher in Williamsville schools, died Tuesday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was 79.
Born in Buffalo, the former Cecilia Spano earned a bachelor’s degree in French from D’Youville College and a master’s degree in education from Canisius College. She also studied at the Foreign Language Institute of the University of Maine and at McGill University in Montreal.
Mrs. Breen began teaching at Williamsville Junior High School in 1959, was at Williamsville North High School from 1968 to 1975, then went to Williamsville East High School. She retired in 1995.
She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa sorority and was active in its service projects. She also was an avid traveler all her life.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Robert P., a retired Army colonel; a daughter, Kristen A.; a sister, Maria Spano Baron; and a brother, Frank Spano.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 200 St. Gregory Court at Maple Road, Amherst.
