National Comedy Center gets $1.7 million federal infusion

JAMESTOWN – The National Comedy Center here will receive a grant of $1.7 million for its renovation and expansion project from the U.S. Department of Commerce Public Works Program, Rep. Tom Reed, R-Corning, announced Wednesday.

The project involves renovating the former Erie-Lackawanna train station and the city’s former BPU building on West Second Street, and the construction a new connecting building and a public plaza for other events. The $45 million center, the nation’s only major humor museum, is scheduled to open in 2017.
