Union employees of BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York approved a nearly three-year contract extension by an overwhelming majority in a vote Monday evening, according to representatives of Local 153, OPEIU (Office and Professional Employees International Union).
The agreement, which extends to April 25, 2019, provides annual wage increases and maintains current benefits, union officials said. The contract, ratified eight months prior to the expiration of the current pact, covers 440 office and clerical employees at the health care plan’s Buffalo headquarters represented by Local 153.
The company said the new contract represents “a new high point” for labor relations at BlueCross BlueShield. Company president and CEO David W. Anderson said the agreement was “an unprecedented milestone” and “is reflective of a strong internal culture.”
