Mom in BB abuse case accused of hitting 6-year-old with plastic bat

The Concord mother whose daughters were peppered with BBs by the woman’s boyfriend is now facing charges herself.

Bobbie Jo Laurie, 28, was arraigned before Concord Town Judge Leslie J. Gibbin on three counts of endangering the welfare of a child. According to the District Attorney’s Office, one charge is from Laurie allegedly hitting her 6-year-old daughter in the face with a plastic baseball bat. The other two charges allege Laurie failed to exercise a minimum degree of care by allowing her live-in partner, Steven Scroger, to discipline the 6-year-old and her 4-year-old sister by shooting them repeatedly with a BB gun on two occasions.

Scroger was arrested in February and pleaded guilty in March to assaulting the children. He was sentenced in May to consecutive one-year prison terms and ordered to stay away from the girls for 10 years.

Laurie, who has a year-old child with Scroger, pleaded not guilty to the current charges. Bail was set at $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond. She is scheduled to be back in Concord Court Sept. 19 at 6 p.m.
