Battistoni Diesel’s attempt to defend its championship at the NABF Major Division World Series came to an emphatic end on Sunday afternoon. The team dropped a 12-2 decision to Brooklyn Sports Fever in the title game. The tournament was played at C.O. Brown Stadium in Battle Creek, Mich.
Brooklyn jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the early going. Then the squad scored four runs in the fourth inning to break the contest open and chase Battistoni starter Kevin Hughes (Starpoint). The game was called after seven innings on the mercy rule. Battistoni finished its season with a record of 29-3.
The team put five members on the NABF All-World Series Team: Hughes, infielders Neal Demartin and Mike Wagner, and outfielders Randy Moley and Ryan Baroudi.
Brooklyn had struggled earlier in the tournament, earning a comeback victory just to advance out of pool play. But the squad was unstoppable the rest of the way.
