Two Buffalo men accused of drug, weapons and traffic charges after high speed chase

Two men were captured early Friday after a high speed chase through city streets following a traffic stop at Holden and Leroy avenues, Buffalo police reported.

Amani Johnson, 20, of Hedley Place, and Bryan Braswell, 18, of Northland Avenue, were captured after their car crashed on Pleasant Place about 2:20 a.m. The reached speeds of up to 80 mph.

Police they found 53 bags of crack cocaine on Johnson and he was arrested.

Braswell fled but was captured in the second block of Florida Street after tossing a .44 Magnum revolver loaded with six rounds into a garbage tote, according to an arrest report.

Both were charged with unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and obstruction of governmental administration. Braswell was charged with criminal possession of a loaded weapon.

Johnson, identified by police as driving of the car that crashed, was charged with criminal possession of a narcotic drug, criminal possession of a narcotic drug with the intend to sell, reckless driving, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop at a stop sign and speeding.

Both are being held at the Erie County Holding Center.
