Third inning dooms Bisons in 8-2 loss to Red Sox

The Buffalo Bisons fell flat in their series opener against the Pawtucket Red Sox at McCoy Stadium Friday night.

The Bisons gave up seven runs in the third inning en route to an 8-2 loss. It was the third straight for the Herd who fell to 1-4 on their road trip.

Third inning trouble: The PawSox batted around in the third inning to score seven runs, highlighted by a three-run inside-the-park home run from Marco Hernandez. Starter Chris Leroux was tagged for all seven runs.

Leroux troubles: It was a forgettable 20th start of the season for Leroux, who gave up seven runs on eight hits in four innings with two walks and three strike outs. His last three decisions have been losses. He last won in a 6-5 decision at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on July 7.

Hit streak ends: Ryan Goins went 0 for 3 ending his eight-game hit streak. He did have a sac fly in the eighth to drive in a run.

Dominguez dominates: Matt Dominguez had an RBI double in the first inning, his sixth extra-base hit in his last eight games (four doubles, two home runs). He entered the game hitting .400 since July 29 (10 for 25).

Scoring first: The Herd took a 1-0 lead in the first inning but lost for only the 10th time when scroing first (38-10).

Up next: The Bisons continue their series with Pawtucket as Mike Bolsinger makes his debut with the Herd Saturday (6:05 p.m.). The right-hander was aquired by the Toronto Blue Jays from the L.A. Dodgers at the trade deadline. The series concludes at 1:05 p.m. Sunday. The Bisons are off on Monday and return to Buffalo on Tuesday to open a nine-game homestand.
