Driver freed from wreckage of milk tanker in Sardinia rollover crash

Emergency responders rescued the driver of a milk tanker that rolled over into a ditch and caught fire about 4 p.m. Saturday after hitting a car at Route 16 and Genesee Road in Sardinia, according to the the Erie County Sheriff’s Office.

Milk from the ruptured tanker was used to help extingiuish a fire, according to Scott Zylka, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office. Fire companies also were dispatched to the scene.

The driver, who was not identified, was freed from the wreckage shortly before 5 p.m. Injuries to the driver were not believed to be life-threatening.
