The Buffalo team consisting of top scholastic players from the area remains perfect at the Fifth Annual BCANY Summer Hoops Festival.
Buffalo bounced Southern Tier 78-53 Saturday night in Johnson City to improve to 3-0 in the three-day tournament that serves as a replacement for the Empire State Games for the state’s top scholastic basketball talents.
Eleven players scored for Buffalo, which also defeated Mid Hudson 81-37 earlier Saturday. Jamestown senior James Rojas scored 11 points against Southern Tier, while Williamsville South junior Greg Dolan recording 10 points to go with five assists.
Dominick Welch (Cheektowaga) grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds to go with seven points for Buffalo, which returns to action at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at Johnson City Middle School against Central (Syracuse) in a semifinal contest during the placement round. The winner advances to the final at 2:30 p.m. at Johnson City Elementary while the loser plays in the third-place game at Johnson City Middle School.
In Buffalo’s first game, Marcellus Cooper (Amherst) had 13 points, while Dolan added 12 and four assists and Da’Shawn Hines (Amherst) 10 points as the winners led 36-11 at the break against Mid Hudson.Ryan Bradley (Wilson) grabbed 10 rebounds, Tavien Kemp (Archbishop Walsh) finished with five assists and Rojas made four steals.
Rochester and Southern Tier meet in the other semifinal Sunday morning at JC Elementary.
