Wiesel was a master at reaching consensus
The July 31 My View, “Soft-spoken Wiesel will always be remembered,” by Mara-Koven Gelman was very moving. Elie Wiesel touched so many people’s lives. I believe his time as a professor was healing for him and a way to improve society by elevating the spirit of his students and followers.
I had the extraordinary privilege of serving with Wiesel on the President’s Commission on the Holocaust and the first U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council that built the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. I observed how masterful he was at including a cross-section of thinking in reaching consensus as to how to assure that future generations never forget the Holocaust. He taught us well.
