Garden Notes: News of area clubs and events

The 12th annual Black Rock & Riverside Tour of Gardens will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The event is free and features more than 50 gardens. The 10th annual Starry Night Garden Tour of 20 illuminated gardens is scheduled for 8 to 10 p.m. that evening. Maps and promotional items will be available at the Black Rock headquarters – Buffalo Religious Arts Center, 157 East St. – and the Riverside headquarters – St. Mark’s and All Saints’ Church, 311 Ontario St. Visit brrtourofgardens.com for downloadable map. In addition, Councilmember Joseph Golombek will speak of Black Rock history at 11 a.m. that day; $8 per person. Meet at the Buffalo Religious Arts Center for this walking tour; proceeds to benefit the Tour of Gardens. Olmsted’s Riverside Park will offer a tour at 1 p.m. at the northeast corner of the park. Buffalo Religious Arts Center will also conduct their own tours from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at $8 per person.

East Aurora Garden Club will hold a picnic and auction at noon Monday in Shelter 1 at the Elma Town Park, 3011 Bowen Road. Members are asked to bring an item for the auction and a lawn chair. Guests welcome. The club is sponsoring a lecture at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the East Aurora Senior Center, 101 King St. David Clark will present “Plant Propagation Techniques.” It’s free and open to the public. The club also is presenting “Seasons,” a Standard Flower Show, from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 12 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Millard Fillmore House, 24 Shearer Ave., East Aurora. Admission is free. David Truby and Diane Woodman will demonstrate the art of making floral arrangements for the Evans Garden Club at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Angola Public Library.

Kenmore Garden Club will tour the gardens and estate of the George Eastman House in Rochester on Tuesday. Lunch at the Shadow Lake Golf Club and shopping at Sara’s Garden Center will follow. Members will continue to care for the flowers in the town Adopt-a-Boxes and the Ken-Ton Historical Building gardens.

South Town Gardeners will meet at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 12 at the Burchfield Nature & Art Center, 2001 Union Road, West Seneca. Lynn Chimera will discuss using native plants in the landscape. Guest and new members welcome. Call 668-0209.

Amana Garden Club members will gather for a picnic at 11 a.m. Aug. 12 at the home of Lori Brand, 1371 Transit Road, Elma. Members are asked to bring a few flower stems from their gardens to make a bouquet for the hostess. After a pot-luck luncheon, members will have a “green” elephant auction of a garden-related item placed in a plain brown bag.
