Andrea J. Centola, a special-education teacher at Cheektowaga Central High School, died Thursday at Niagara Hospice after a long illness. She was 48.
Born in Tonawanda, Mrs. Centola graduated from Sweet Home High School in 1985. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree at SUNY Geneseo in 1989, and earned her master’s degree from SUNY Buffalo State.
She began her teaching career at Gowanda High School in 1989, and then moved on to Cheektowaga Central High School in 2000.
Mrs. Centola was a member and former alumni adviser of Sigma Kappa sorority, and was an active parishioner at St. Mary’s Church in Swormville. She enjoyed going to the movies with her children.
She is survived by her husband, John Centola; a brother, Peter R. Schaefer; two daughters, Stacy and Lauren O’Malley; and a son, Mark O’Malley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Church, 6919 Transit Road, Swormville.
