March 16, 1991 – July 24, 2016

LOCKPORT – Services will be held Thursday for Petty Officer Second Class Samantha N. Stover of the U.S. Navy, who died July 24 in an auto accident in Tamolitch Falls, Ore. She was 25.

Ms. Stover, a Lockport native, was en route back to her base in Everett, Wash., after a weekend hiking trip in Oregon when the fatal crash occurred, according to her aunt, Anita Stover.

Her supervisor, Petty Officer First Class Ranette Brown, said Ms. Stover was a tactical information coordinator aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Gridley, whose home port was shifted from San Diego to Everett in June.

Ms. Stover had joined the Navy 2½ years ago. The Gridley was deployed in the Middle East from August 2014 through June 2015, Brown said.

Ms. Stover graduated from Lockport High School in 2009 and worked several local jobs before joining the Navy.

Survivors include her parents, Bonnett Golson and Carleen Stover; siblings Tyler Rivera, Bonnett Golson Jr., Rakeem Golson, Rashale Golson and Raquel Golson; and her grandmother, Bessie Provenzano.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 168 Chestnut St.
