LEWISTON – Alan Hastings, owner of the Silo restaurant on the Lewiston waterfront, has been named chairman of this year’s Niagara County Peach Festival.
The 59th annual event, sponsored by the Lewiston Kiwanis Club, marks the unofficial end of summer in Niagara County. It will be held from Sept. 9-11 in Academy Park on Center Street in Lewiston.
“It’s been an honor to work with a fine group of dedicated members, volunteers and sponsors with the shared goal to drive the festival forward while keeping true to its original values and long-standing traditions,” Hastings remarked. “Once again, 100 percent of the proceeds of this festival will go to local community organizations and non-profits to enrich and support other Western New Yorkers.”
He said special signs will identify Niagara County businesses among the 22 food vendors, and a contest will be held to come with new ways to use peaches in foods and drinks.
But the ever-popular peach shortcake will be served as always, and 40 rides, the Peach Queen contest and the Saturday morning parade will continue to be part of the event. Corporate sponsors include The Buffalo News and WGRZ-TV.
