Federal grants announced for Early Head Start programs

Two Early Head Start programs in Western New York will receive a total of $4,384,012 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Sens. Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, D-NY, announced Tuesday.

Community Action Organization of Erie County Inc. in Buffalo will be given $3,040,919 for its Early Head Start program, while Chautauqua Opportunities Inc. in Dunkirk will get $1,343,093 for its Early Head Start and Child Care partnership program.

Early Head Start serves pregnant mothers, infants and toddlers with early education, health screenings, nutritional and social services, and services for children with disabilities.
