Buffalo News wins 5 New York News Publishers Association awards

The Buffalo News was honored with five wins in the 2015 New York News Publishers Association Awards for Excellence competition announced earlier this month.

Awards went to Emma Sapong in business reporting for her story, “Bangladeshis transform Buffalo, one block at a time,” about the decade-long migration of hundreds of South Asian families from New York City to Buffalo’s East Side and the positive effect it has had.

Tim Graham was awarded excellence in sports writing for his feature on Buffalo Bills coach Rex Ryan, “Becoming Rex.”

Jerry Sullivan received the award for excellence in sports column writing.

Jason Baum was awarded for excellence in page design and presentation for a poster he created of John Tavares, forward and assistant coach of the Buffalo Bandits lacrosse team.

The sports staff of The News also was honored for a sports supplement, the NHL Preview.

A reception and awards banquet honoring all the winners was held on July 20 in Albany.
