Former IRS employee gets probation in benefits case

Yvonne E. Borders collected unemployment benefits while working for the IRS, and was sentenced this week to two years probation.

U.S. Magistrate Judge H. Kenneth Schroeder Jr. also ordered the 43-year old Cheektowaga woman to pay $18,550 in restitution to New York State.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Maura K. O’Donnell and Elizabeth R. Moellering said Borders collected unemployment benefits from January 2009 through December 2013 even though she was employed as a contact representative with the IRS

Her sentencing is the result of an investigation by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Inspector General, Office of Labor Racketeering and Fraud Investigations and the New York State Department of Labor.
