Luann F. Joy-Woods, retired home economics teacher

March 28, 1950 – July 24, 2016

Luann F. Joy-Woods, of Buffalo, a retired home economics teacher, died Sunday in Sisters Hospital after a brief illness. She was 66.

Born in Buffalo, the former Luann Joy was a graduate of Mount St. Joseph Academy. She earned an associate degree at Erie Community College North, a bachelor’s degree at SUNY Buffalo State and a master’s degree at the University at Buffalo.

Mrs. Joy-Woods taught home economics in the Buffalo schools for 35 years, spending most of her career at School 3, Buffalo Traditional School and BUILD Academy. She retired in 2006. Missing teaching in retirement, she returned to the classroom as a substitute teacher at BUILD Academy.

A theater lover, she was a volunteer for several years at Shea’s Performing Arts Center.

Surviving are her husband of 27 years, Ellis; a daughter, Elyse; a son, Cameron; a sister, Rosemary Sobala; and a granddaughter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 651 Washington St.
