Can collector is robbed at gunpoint in Niagara Falls

NIAGARA FALLS – A Niagara Falls man who was out collecting cans was the victim of an armed robbery and the thieves took his cash and his cans.

The 59-year-old victim said three men jumped him at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday in the 300 block alley off of Fifth Street. He said one of the men was carrying a black handgun. The victim said he was hit by an unknown object, which cut his right hand; he received stitches for the injury at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center .

The men took $15 in cash and about $5 worth of cans and then fled down the alley.

The victim said the men were wearing shorts and one of them had a gold front tooth and a goatee. The man with the gun was approximately 5 feet, 4 inches tall, according to a police report.
