George V. Henel, attorney and financial adviser

June 13, 1944 – July 21, 2016

George V. Henel of Amherst, an attorney and financial adviser, died Thursday after a long illness. He was 72.

Born in Buffalo, he grew up in Kenmore and graduated from Canisius High School, the University of Detroit and the University at Buffalo School of Law.

Mr. Henel began his career working for the family business, the Henel Bros. Kenmore Dairy, which was founded by his father in 1925. He served as chief financial officer of the company, overseeing the eventual sale and closing of the dairy, which was known locally for producing milk, ice cream and other dairy products.

He practiced law in Buffalo and Florida.

After retiring from the law, Mr. Henel focused on investing and founded Empire Capital Management Co. He was once featured in Business Week magazine.

Mr. Henel was also a licensed pilot, avid skier and boater. He was a longtime member of the Buffalo Launch Club on Grand Island.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sharon; a son Christopher M.; a daughter, Lindsay; two brothers, Robert and Gerald; four sisters, Alice, Arlene “Joy,” Donna and Rosemary Kort; and two grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church, 1317 Eggert Road, Eggertsville.
