Garden Notes: News of area clubs and events

Gardens Buffalo Niagara’s Tour of Open Gardens during select hours on Thursdays and Fridays continues through the end of July. All you need is a guide and some time to visit participating gardens at your leisure throughout Erie and Niagara counties. To download a PDF with gardens, addresses and days and hours of each garden, visit gardensbuffaloniagara.com, where you also can find locations selling a full-color book, $5, with photos and garden descriptions. The tour itself is free.

Garden Walk Niagara Falls USA kicks off at 9:30 a.m. Saturday with a welcome at the Niagara Falls Public Library, 1425 Main St. Maps also will be available to the free event at two other headquarters: Oakwood Cemetery, 763 Portage Road, and the Niagara Arts & Cultural Center, 1201 Pine Ave. at Portage Road. They also can be printed at thenacc.org. Tours and events are scheduled until 5 p.m. at these locations as well as at the Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center’s Schoellkopf Park, Park Place Historic District (Porch Fest from 2 to 4 p.m.) and the Memorial Park neighborhood (location of the Black Squirrel Home and Garden self-guided tour). The 14th annual Ken-Ton Garden Tour will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. In addition, the Night Lights tour of illuminated gardens will be held from 8:30 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Gardens are located in the Village of Kenmore and Town of Tonawanda; this is primarily a driving tour. Tour day headquarters is at the Aquatic and Fitness Center, 1 Pool Plaza, Town of Tonawanda. The West Seneca Garden Walk of more than 25 gardens is planned for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Maps to the free tour can be picked up at Mike Weber Greenhouses, 42 French Road, West Seneca, next to St. Matthew’s Cemetery.

The Sun Catcher Garden Club’s Garden Tour in Batavia is scheduled for noon to 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Headquarters: the Batavia Cemetery on Harvester Avenue, where tickets will be available for $10.

Hamburg House and Garden Club will hold its annual picnic at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Recreation Center, 6756 Taylor Road, Hamburg. The theme is Mardi Gras. Call Nancy Kalieta at 826-7482.
