Frank C. Woodward, WWII veteran, co-owner of optical company

Frank C. Woodward of Williamsville, co-owner of an optical company and a World War II veteran, died Wednesday in Canterbury Woods Nursing Home, Amherst. He was 97.

Born in Buffalo, he was a graduate of Fosdick-Masten High School and served in the Army in New Guinea during World War II.

Mr. Woodward was co-owner of Wholesale Optical Co., formerly Franwall Optical. He retired in the late 1980s.

An avid golfer, he was a member of the East Aurora Country Club.

He also enjoyed travel and puzzles.

His wife of 69 years, the former Doris Scheidt, died in 2011.

Survivors include two daughters, Geraldine Benaglio and Terry Fishburn; a son, Gary; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Faith United Church of Christ, 1300 Maple Road, Amherst.
