Gunpoint robbery thwarted on Elmwood Avenue

The gunpoint robbery of a 34-year-old man early Thursday on Elmwood Avenue was foiled by a witness who scared away the two thieves, police said.

The incident occurred just before 3 a.m. near the “We Never Close” store at Bird Avenue, police said. The man told police he was walking on Elmwood when he was approached by two men who demanded he empty his pockets. When he refused, one of the men displayed a black handgun, police said.

At this point, the witness emerged from the store and the thieves fled, police said.
