Falls man gets prison term for injuring officer in struggle

A Niagara Falls man who resisted an effort by probation officers to take him into custody has been sentenced to 2½ years in prison by Senior U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny, U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul Jr. reports.

Prosecutors said Monsuru Giwa, 24, was being handcuffed by a U.S. probation officer on the porch of his home during a search last Nov. 24 when he attempted to break free. The officer fell from the porch, suffering leg lacerations, and Giwa fled. He later was arrested and convicted of assaulting a federal officer.
