A $255,000 state grant will allow the Village of Kenmore to fully fund a project to improve the Elmwood Avenue streetscape for pedestrians, Assemblyman Robin Schimminger (D-Kenmore) announced last week.
The state had previously committed $750,000 in federal highway funds toward the project, which is being coordinated with the Erie County Department of Public Works because Elmwood is a county road.
The project includes sidewalk replacement along the entire east side of Elmwood Avenue in the village, as well as installation of curb ramps compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. It also includes installation of new lighting and replacement of black-topped areas between the curb and sidewalk with greenspace.
The state legislative grant will also be used to purchase a high lift wheel loader for the village’s Department of Public Works, according to a news release.
