Buffalo area teams continue to do well at Fast Pitch World Series

Buffalo area teams continued to do well Wednesday in the NSA Fast Pitch World Series at Sunshine Park in West Seneca and Amherst Audubon before the girls softball tournaments took time out for a Welcome Party and Opening Ceremonies at Coca-Cola Field on Wednesday night. More than 5,000 tournament participants took part in the celebration.

Amherst Lighting and the New York Diamond Girls, another local team, will meet Thursday in the winners bracket final in the 10U division. The winner will gain a place in Friday’s overall championship round of double-elimination play.

In 12U play, the Lou Gehrig Lasers remained unbeaten with a 10-0 victory over Ann Arbor (Mich.) Gold on Wednesday. The Lasers will face the NY Diamond Girls Thursday for a place in the winners bracket semifinals.

The Lou Gehrig Lasers Gold and Evans Force are two of the teams still undefeated in the 14U play, while six of the eight unbeaten teams in 16U are from Western New York including four Amherst Lightning teams plus the West Seneca Magic Orange and the WNY Sting.

In 18U, Western New York Rally defeated the Butler County (Pa.) Sting, 9-0, to join the three other unbeatens in the winners bracket of that division.

Pool play will get under way Thursday among the four entrants in the 23U division. They include Amherst Lightning, West Seneca Magic White, West Seneca Magic Blue and the NY Diamond Girls.
