NIAGARA FALLS – A vehicle, still running with its headlights on, was stopped in the middle of Stephenson Avenue Monday morning, the driver sound asleep at the wheel.
But Niagara Falls police officers found more than a sleeping driver, uncovering nearly 11 grams of heroin and more than four grams of crack cocaine, as well as a large amount of pills. The stop was made just after 1 a.m. Monday in the 5600 block of Stephenson.
Donald R. Patterson III, was charged with four felony counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor count of criminal possession, unlawful possession of marijuana, promoting prison contraband, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, using a vehicle without an interlock device and parking violations.
Officers found an open pocket knife in view when they checked the vehicle and a digital scale and crack pipe in the cup holder, which led to a further investigation. A body search at the city jail uncovered hidden drugs, police said.
