Reuse DL&W as a market and show off ethnic cuisine
On a recent trip to Toronto my wife and I visited busy St. Lawrence Market. The market hosts a huge variety of vendors offering meats, vegetables, sea foods, cheeses, organic foods, ethnic foods and many other things.
What a fantastic venue a St. Lawrence-type market would be at the old DL&W station above the street car barn. Adapted to Buffalo, our market could feature foods highlighting our ethnic makeup and Buffalo cuisine as well as serving as a huge Broadway or Sloan-type market with tabled areas allowing people to sample their purchases.
Our market would service waterfront visitors as well as area residents. Should a concept of this nature come to fruition, care should be taken not to overburden the vendors with high rents and excessive regulations. Care should also be taken to select vendors of proven quality and success. No politics!
