Marie C. Kane, of Orchard Park, a registered nurse and wife of retired State Supreme Court Justice James B. Kane Jr., died Friday under hospice care in Mercy Hospital after a brief illness. She was 91.
Born in Buffalo, the former Marie C. O’Hearn attended Holy Family Elementary School and Our Lady of Victory High School before earning her degree as a member of the first graduating class from Our Lady of Victory School of Nursing.
During World War II, she was a member of the U.S. Cadet Nursing Corps and provided care for wounded veterans home from the war.
The mother of 10, Mrs. Kane returned to nursing after her children were grown. She worked as a public health nurse at Lafayette High School and was a behavioral nurse at the West Seneca Developmental Center before she retired.
She was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church in Orchard Park and volunteered at the Adoration Chapel of Mary at the church for many years. She also was active in the Orchard Park Democratic Committee.
She enjoyed reading, cross-country skiing, tennis, classic movies and cheering the Bills, the Sabres and her grand-nephew, Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane.
In addition to her husband of 64 years, survivors include six sons, Kevin J., Daniel B., James B. III, Terrence J., Paul T. and Christopher J.; four daughters, Margaret Saunders, Julie Marie, Mary Clare and Kitty Turano; and 14 grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Nativity of Our Lord Church, 26 Thorn Ave., Orchard Park.
