Buffalo woman sentenced in theft of Social Security benefits

A Buffalo woman has been sentenced to five years of probation with six months of home confinement after being convicted of illegally collecting Social Security retirement benefits totaling $235,160 for more than 12 years, according to a U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Aramenta Lee, 63, failed to notify the Social Security Administration of her father’s death in 2002, and checks continued to be deposited into a savings account in the name of her father between July 13, 2002 and Jan. 2, 2015, authorities said.
