Ruth Gallisdorfer, teacher, lover of world cultures

Ruth Gallisdorfer, of Williamsville, a retired middle school teacher, died July 4 in Buffalo General Medical Center after a short illness. She was 93.

Born in Buffalo, the former Ruth Cook was orphaned as a child and grew up with the Cronin-Lorence family in Buffalo.

She was married to Harold Gallisdorfer from 1942 to 1959, and then returned to school as a single parent to earn degrees from Buffalo State College and the University at Buffalo.

Mrs. Gallisdorfer taught social studies for 27 years at Mill Middle School in Williamsville and led annual student tours to Washington, D.C., until she was 85. In retirement, she was a student teacher adviser at Canisius College and volunteer coordinator for the UB Mini Medical School.

She enjoyed art, dance, theater, world cultures and history. She was active as a director with the former Williamsville Circle Theatre.

Survivors include a daughter, Susanna; a son, Peter; a grandson; and a great-grandson.

A celebration of her life will be held this fall.
