Kelly Marion, a retired firefighter and former Buffalo resident, died July 9 after an accident in his Tucson, Ariz., home. He was 61.
Born in Kenmore, Mr. Marion was a graduate of Bennett High School, and earned an associate degree in fire science from Yavapai College in Prescott, Ariz.
He started his career as a firefighter in Atlanta in 1982 and joined the Flagstaff (Ariz.) Fire Department in 1984, serving as an engineer and paramedic and rising through the ranks to become a captain.
Mr. Marion retired from the department in 2004, later joining Raytheon in Tucson as an assistant fire chief. He was promoted to fire chief at Raytheon and retired again a few years later. An avid car enthusiast, he specialized in rebuilding Studebakers.
He visited Buffalo frequently to see relatives and friends.
His granddaughter, Kailea Marion, was born last year and captured his heart.
Survivors include his wife, the former Cindy Stevens; two sons, Brian and Sean; a daughter, Katherine; his mother, Jane Marion; two sisters, Julia Taggart and Peggy; and a brother, J. Michael.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Christ’s Church of Flagstaff. The service will be followed by a procession of firefighters to Citizens Cemetery.
