A 60-year-old man who crashed his vehicle into a guardrail while being pursued by police Monday night attempted to flee by foot before he was arrested, Northeast District police said.
Police said James Gardin was stopped for a routine check around 7:45 p.m. Monday when he took off in his vehicle and it crashed at Interpark and Humboldt Parkway.
Gardin tried to run away but police caught him in a rear yard on Humboldt, police said.
A crack pipe was recovered in the ash tray of Gardin’s vehicle, police said.
Damages to the guard rail were estimated at $1000.
Gardin faces charges of obstructing governmental administration, criminal mischief, possession of a controlled substance and numerous state Vehicle and Traffic violations.
