Luke Russert tweets he’s leaving NBC News

Luke Russert is leaving NBC News.

Russert, son of former “Meet the Press” host and South Buffalo native Tim Russert, is taking time away from political reporting to pursue other interests, he posted on Twitter late Wednesday morning.

His last day at NBC News is Friday.

“It has been a privilege and an honor to have worked for NBC News for the last eight years,” Russert posted on Twitter, showing the body of an email announcing his departure. “I will always be eternally grateful for all the opportunities I’ve received and for the incredible people I’ve gotten to know along the way. NBC News is family and while it’s hard to leave, it’s the right decision for me at this time.”

Russert, 30, has been NBC News’ Capitol Hill correspondent.
