Free paint job to fix a neglected home

NORTH TONAWANDA – Sometimes a home makeover is as easy as a paint job.

But it’s not so easy if you lack the funds or the ability to do the job.

For the past five years Jesse Gooch, the owner of Painters Plus has teamed up with the City of North Tonawanda, local businesses and volunteers from the Chamber of Commerce of the Tonawandas to offer Project HOPE - Helping Others Paint Exteriors. The sixth annual citywide contest will choose a homeowner for an extensive home makeover on the weekend of August 6, with a rain date of Aug. 13.

The deadline to submit an application is Friday. Applications are available online at http://www.PaintersPlus.US/ or mail a letter to Painters Plus, 800 Walck Road. Applications are also available at City Hall and the Chamber of Commerce.

Gooch said it has always been his passion to help people and make a difference in the community. He said he will chose a person or family that have a home that is in need of a paint job with an owner who is disabled, elderly, suffering financial hardship or is a disabled veteran.

The contest winner will have their home pressure washed, primed and painted by the Painters Plus team and volunteers. The paint for Project Hope is donated by Sherwin Williams on Meadow Drive in North Tonawanda.

Project HOPE also worked with SERV Niagara to offer a home makeover to a veteran in Lockport.
