LEWISTON – Lewiston Fire Company No. 1 will receive $218,096 in federal funding, Rep. Chris Collins announced this week.
The grant from the Department of Homeland Security will be used for training, both for veterans and new recruits by buying a mobile training facility and several pieces of training equipment, Chief John Penzotti said.
“Having this equipment in our district will allow for more frequent training and will also reduce the number of times a year we have to take our fire equipment and personnel out of our district to utilize remote training facilities. Allowing our firefighters to have maximum training opportunities will undoubtedly result in safer response environments for our volunteers and ultimately a better, more protected public,” Penzotti said.
