BRUNNER, Daniel Renwick

BRUNNER - Daniel Renwick Born January 18, 1953 in Buffalo NY, passed from this life July 4, 2016 in Colorado Springs, CO. Dan was a graduate of Amherst Central High (1971), Paul Smith College (1973) and Colorado State University (1975). He was predeceased by his mother Janet Herniman Mullaney, father David C. Brunner and sister Jane M. Brunner. He is survived by his wife Dee Dee Marlin Brunner of Colorado Springs, stepmother Joanne Brunner of Colden, NY and brothers Thomas D. Brunner (Kathy) of Amherst, NY and Rev. Paul A. Brunner (Suzanne) of Northglenn, CO. After graduating from CSU, Dan worked for many years in the construction business in and around Denver, CO. Starting as a surveyor, he worked his way up to supervisor and eventually vice president, dealing primarily the initial layout of new housing developments. After leaving construction, Dan founded the Personal Defense Institute, where he taught firearm safety, proficiency and concealed carry classes. He also worked at Bass Pro Outfitters the last few years. Dan was an avid outdoorsman and hunter, with an encyclopedic knowledge of wild game and firearms. He loved to be in the field and was adamant about safety and ethical hunting practices. He enjoyed camping and re-enacting the fur trade period of the 1840s in the Rocky Mountains. It seems fitting that he passed on July 4th, the same date that one of his heroes, Thomas Jefferson, died. A Service of Remembrance will be held in Colorado Springs on July 24.
